SURAH AL-AN AAM (AYA 81 to 90)

وَكَيْفَ أَخَافُ مَا أَشْرَكْتُمْ وَلَا تَخَافُونَ أَنَّكُمْ أَشْرَكْتُمْ بِاللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِ عَلَيْكُمْ سُلْطَانًا ۚ فَأَيُّ الْفَرِيقَيْنِ أَحَقُّ بِالْأَمْنِ ۖ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ {6:81}
[Q6:81] Wa kaifa akhaafu maaa ashraktum wa laa takhaafoona annakum ashraktum billaahi maa lam yunazzil bihee 'alaikum sultaanaa; fa aiyul fareeqaini ahaqqu bil amni in kuntum ta'lamoon.
[Q6:81] And how should I fear what you have set up (with Him), while you do not fear that you have set up with ALLAH (SWT) that for which He has not sent down to you any authority; which then of the two parties is surer of security, if you know?
(see commentary for verse 74)

(6:81) Why should I fear those whom you have associated (with Allah in His divinity) when you do not fear associating others with Allah in His divinity - something for which He has sent down to you no authority. Then, which of the two parties has better title to security? Tell us, if you have any knowledge!

الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَلَمْ يَلْبِسُوا إِيمَانَهُمْ بِظُلْمٍ أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمُ الْأَمْنُ وَهُمْ مُهْتَدُونَ {6:82}
[Q6:82] Allazeena aamanoo wa lam yalbisooo eemaanahum bizulmin ulaaa'ika lahumul amnu wa hum muhtadoon.
[Q6:82] Those who believe and do not mix up their faith with iniquity, those are they who shall have the security and they are those who go aright.
(see commentary for verse 74)

(6:82) Those who believe and did not tarnish their faith with wrong-doing for them there is security, and it is they who have been guided to the right way.' *55
*55. This entire section shows that those people did not deny the existence of God as the creator of the heavens and earth. Their real guilt was that they associated others in His attributes and His rights over man. In the first place, Abraham himself clearly states that they associated others with God as His partners. In the second place, the way in which Abraham mentions God in addressing these people is suitable only for a people who did not deny the existence of God. We must, therefore, regard as incorrect the opinion of those Qur'anic commentators who try to explain this verse on the assumption that the people of Abraham either denied or were unaware of the existence of God, and considered their own deities to be the exclusive possessors of godhead.
The expression 'and did not tarnish their faith with wrong-doing' led some Companions to the misapprehension that perhaps this 'wrong-doing' signified 'disobedience'. But the Prophet (peace be on him) has made it clear that this wrong-doing signifies shirk (associating others with God in His divinity). The verse means, therefore, that they alone are fully secure and rightly-guided who believe in God and do not mix their faith with any polytheistic belief and practice.
It is interesting to learn that this incident, which is the starting-point of Abraham's prophetic career, has found no place in the Bible. It is mentioned only in the Talmud. The Talmudic version, however, is different from the Qur'anic version in two ways.
First, in the Talmudic version Abraham's quest for the Truth begins with the sun and then proceeds by way of the stars to his discovery of the One True God. Second. It states that Abraham not only held the sun to be his Lord but even worshipped it, and that the same happened in connection with the moon.

SECTION 10
The other Apostles followed Abraham’s footsteps
Apostles followed Abraham’s footsteps---The other Apostles.

وَتِلْكَ حُجَّتُنَا آتَيْنَاهَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ ۚ نَرْفَعُ دَرَجَاتٍ مَنْ نَشَاءُ ۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ {6:83}
[Q6:83] Wa tilka hujjatunaaa aatainaahaaa Ibraaheema 'alaa qawmih; narfa'u darajaatim man nashaaa'; inna Rabbaka Hakeemun 'Aleem.
[Q6:83] And this was Our argument which we gave to Ibrahim against his people; We exalt in dignity whom We please; surely your Lord is Wise, Knowing.
Sesungguhnya Tuhanmu Maha Bijaksana, lagi Maha Mengetahui.
(see commentary for verse 74)
_____________________________________________________________________________________
(6:83) That was Our argument which We gave to Abraham against his people. We raise in ranks whom We will. Truly your lord is All-Wise, All-Knowing.

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ ۚ كُلًّا هَدَيْنَا ۚ وَنُوحًا هَدَيْنَا مِنْ قَبْلُ ۖ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ دَاوُودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُوسُفَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ {6:84}
[Q6:84] Wa wahabnaa lahoo ishaaqa wa ya'qoob; kullan hadainaa; wa Noohan hadainaa min qablu wa min zurriyyatihee Daawooda wa Sulaimaana wa Ayyooba wa Yoosufa wa Moosaa wa Haaroon; wa kazaalika najzil muhsineen;
[Q6:84] And We gave to him Ishaq and Yaqoub; each did We guide, and Nuh did We guide before, and of his descendants, Dawood and Sulaiman and Ayub and Yusuf and Haroun; and thus do We reward those who do good (to others).

ALL THE PROPHETS MENTIONED IN THESE VERSES WERE THE DESCENDANT OF IBRAHIM. In fulfilment of His promise made with Ibrahim, ALLAH (SWT) chose them, preferred them above the worlds and guided them unto the right path. All of them followed the religion of ibrahim, islam. Only those who are guided by ALLAH (SWT) are commissioned by Him to guide mankind.
»    In verse 84 of this surah the pronoun "his" (min dhuriyyatihi) refers to IBRAHIM.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:84) And We bestowed upon Abraham (offspring) Ishaq (Isaac) and Ya'qub (Jacob) and each of them did We guide to the right way as We had earlier guided Noah to the right way; and (of his descendants We guided) Da'ud (David) and Sulayman (Solomon), Ayyub (Job), Yusuf (Joseph), Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron). Thus do We reward those who do good.

وَزَكَرِيَّا وَيَحْيَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰ وَإِلْيَاسَ ۖ كُلٌّ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ {6:85}
[Q6:85] Wa Zakariyyaa wa Yahyaa wa 'Eesaa wa Illyaasa kullum minas saaliheen.
[Q6:85] And Zakariya and Yahya and Isa and Ilyas; every one was of the good;
(see commentary for verse 84)
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:85) (And of his descendants We guided) Zakariya (Zachariah), Yahya (John), Isa (Jesus) and Ilyas (Elias): each one of them was of the righteous.

وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَيُونُسَ وَلُوطًا ۚ وَكُلًّا فَضَّلْنَا عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ {6:86}
[Q6:86] Wa Ismaa'eela wal Yasa'a wa Yoonusa wa Lootaa; wa kullan faddalnaa 'alal 'aalameen.
[Q6:86] And Ismail and Al-Yasha and Yunus and Lut; and every one We made to excel (in) the worlds:
[Q6:86] Dan (dari keturunannya juga ialah Nabi-nabi): Ismail, Ilyasak, Yunus, Lut dan mereka itu semuanya, Kami lebihkan darjat mereka atas umat-umat (yang ada pada zamannya).
(see commentary for verse 84)
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:86) (And of his descendants We guided) Isma'il (Ishmael), al-Yasa' (Elisha), Yunus (Jonah), and Lut (Lot). And each one of them We favoured over all mankind.

وَمِنْ آبَائِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّاتِهِمْ وَإِخْوَانِهِمْ ۖ وَاجْتَبَيْنَاهُمْ وَهَدَيْنَاهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ {6:87}
[Q6:87] Wa min aabaaa'ihim wa zurriyyaatihim wa ikhwaanihim wajtabainaahum wa hadainaahum ilaa Siraatim Mustaqeem.
[Q6:87] And from among their fathers and their descendants and their brethren, and We chose them and guided them into the right way.
(see commentary for verse 84)
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:87) And likewise We elected for Our cause and guided on to a straight way some of their forefathers and their offspring and their brethren.

ذَٰلِكَ هُدَى اللَّهِ يَهْدِي بِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ ۚ وَلَوْ أَشْرَكُوا لَحَبِطَ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ {6:88}
[Q6:88] Zaalika hudal laahi yahdee bihee mai yashaaa'u min 'ibaadih; wa law ashrakoo lahabita 'anhum maa kaanoo ya'maloon.
[Q6:88] This is ALLAH (SWT)'s guidance, He guides thereby whom He pleases of His servants; and if they had set up others (with Him), certainly what they did would have become ineffectual for them.

MERE GOOD DEEDS, WITHOUT THE ESSENTIAL BELIEF IN ALLAH (SWT), ARE USELESS. The prophets of ALLAH (SWT) never associated anyone with ALLAH (SWT) BECAUSE THEY KNEW that even the highest form of good conduct would have gone waste IF EVEN the slightest trace of shirk was found in their faith.
µ  THEY WERE PURE, THEREFORE, ALLAH (SWT) GAVE THEM THE BOOK, AUTHORITY AND PROPHETHOOD.
When the followers of those prophets rejected the book and their authority it was taken away from them and entrusted to the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) and his descendants, whom ALLAH (SWT) Himself thoroughly purified (Ahzab 33:33).
Ø  Fa-bi-huda humuq-tadih means follow the guidance they received and manifest all the goodness that was endowed in the previous missions, in their character as a consolidation of all the goodness preached and practised until now. What every prophet of ALLAH (SWT) individually possessed, the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) was commissioned to demonstrate in his divinely integrated personality as the final, complete and perfect guide BECAUSE there was no other prophet of ALLAH (SWT) to come after him.
ALL THE PROPHETS WERE COMMANDED BY ALLAH (SWT) NOT TO SEEK FROM THE PEOPLE ANY RECOMPENSE FOR THEIR SERVICE EXCEPT THE HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) WHO WAS DIRECTED BY ALLAH (SWT) TO ANNOUNCE "NO REWARD DO I ASK OF YOU FOR IT SAVE THE LOVE OF (MY) RELATIVES (SHURA 42:23)."
     THIS RECOMPENSE WAS ALSO IN THE INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE BECAUSE LOVE OF AHLUL BAYT IS A SELF GENERATING GOODNESS AS HAS BEEN SAID IN VERSE 42:23 OF AL SHURA.
Verses 38:86 to 88 of al Sad also say that the mission of the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) is a reminder to the worlds. It is clearly made known that his mission is to guide mankind till the end of this world. It also means THAT THE RECOMPENSE OF HIS TOILS IS TO LET HIS MESSAGE CONTINUE THROUGH THE IMAMS, AMONG HIS AHLUL BAYT, UNTIL THE DAY OF RESURRECTION.

(6:88) That is Allah's guidance wherewith He guides those of His servants whom He wills. But if they ever associated others with Allah in His divinity, then all that they had done would have gone to waste. *56
*56. Had those people also ascribed partners to God like the people of Arabia, they would not have achieved the positions they had attained.Some might perhaps have earned places in the rogues' gallery of history as either ruthless conquerors or monuments to greed. But had they not shunned polytheism and adhered to their exclusive and unadulterated devotion to God, they would certainly neither have had the honour of becoming the source of light and guidance to others nor of assuming the leadership of the pious and the God-fearing.

أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحُكْمَ وَالنُّبُوَّةَ ۚ فَإِنْ يَكْفُرْ بِهَا هَٰؤُلَاءِ فَقَدْ وَكَّلْنَا بِهَا قَوْمًا لَيْسُوا بِهَا بِكَافِرِينَ {6:89}
[Q6:89] Ulaaa'ikal lazeena aatainaahumul Kitaaba wal hukma wan Nubuwwah; fa iny yakfur bihaa haaa'ulaaa'i faqad wakkalnaa bihaa qawmal laisoo bihaa bikaafireen.
[Q6:89] These are they to whom We gave the book and the wisdom and the prophecy; therefore if these disbelieve in it We have already entrusted with it a people who are not disbelievers in it.
(see commentary for verse 88)
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:89) Those are the ones to whom We gave the Book, and judgement and prophethood. *57 And if they refuse to believe in it now, We will bestow this favour on a people who do believe in it. *58
*57. Here the Prophets are mentioned as having been endowed with three things: first, the revealed guidance embodied in THE BOOK; second, HUKM, i.e. the correct understanding of the revealed guidance, the ability to apply its principles to the practical affairs of life, the God-given capacity to arrive at right opinions regarding human problems; and third, PROPHETHOOD, the office by virtue of which they are enabled to lead human beings in the light of the guidance vouchsafed to them.
*58. GOD DOES NOT CARE IF THE UNBELIEVERS AND POLYTHEISTS CHOOSE TO REJECT THE GUIDANCE WHICH HAS COME DOWN FROM HIM, FOR HE HAD ALREADY RAISED A SIZEABLE GROUP OF MEN OF FAITH TO TRULY APPRECIATE ITS WORTH.

أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ هَدَى اللَّهُ ۖ فَبِهُدَاهُمُ اقْتَدِهْ ۗ قُلْ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا ۖ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْعَالَمِينَ {6:90}
[Q6:90] Ulaaa'ikal lazeena hadal laahu fabihudaahumuq tadih; qul laaa as'alukum 'alaihi ajran in huwa illaa zikraa lil 'aalameen.
[Q6:90] These are they whom ALLAH (SWT) guided, therefore follow their guidance. Say: I do not ask you for any reward for it; it is nothing but a reminder to the nations.
(see commentary for verse 88)

(6:90) (O Muhammad!) Those are the ones Allah guided to the right way. Follow, then, their way, and say: 'I ask of you no reward (for carrying on this mission); it is merely an admonition to all mankind.
