SURAH AL-AN AAM (AYA 11 to 20)

قُلْ سِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ انْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ {6:11}
[Q6:11] Qul seeroo fil ardi summan zuroo kaifa kaana 'aaqibatul mukazzibeen.
[Q6:11] Say: Travel in the land, then see what was the end of the rejecters.

Look at the ruins of the disobedient nations with great and glorious past.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:11) Say: 'Go about journeying the earth, and behold the end of those who gave the lie (to the Truth).' *8
*8. The archaeological remains and historical records of the ancient nations testify to how they met their tragic ends through turning away from truth and honesty and stubbornly persisting in their devotion to falsehood.

قُلْ لِمَنْ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ قُلْ لِلَّهِ ۚ كَتَبَ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ الرَّحْمَةَ ۚ لَيَجْمَعَنَّكُمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۚ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ {6:12}
[Q6:12] Qul limam maa fis samaawaati wal ardi qul lillaah; kataba 'alaa nafsihir rahmah; la yajma 'annakum ilaa Yawmil Qiyaamati laa raiba feeh; allazeena khasirooo anfusahum fahum laa yu'minoon.
[Q6:12] Say: To whom belongs what is in the heavens and the earth? Say: To ALLAH (SWT); He has ordained mercy on Himself; most certainly He will gather you on the resurrection day-- there is no doubt about it. (As for) those who have lost their souls, they will not believe.

ALL THAT EXISTS IN THE UNIVERSE BELONGS TO ALLAH (SWT). Human experience (history) proves the mercy of ALLAH (SWT) and the law that without His mercy man would have lost his soul and destroyed himself completely He mercifully deals with those who repent sincerely, adopt piety and avoid evil.
µ  Those who have destroyed their souls by refusing to give ear to the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) shall be punished on the day of resurrection, BECAUSE they did not exercise their will to believe in ALLAH (SWT) and His last Prophet and obey them, inspite of his clear warnings.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:12) Ask thern: 'To whom belongs all that is in the heavens and on the earth?' *9 Say: 'Everything belongs to Allah.' He has bound Himself to the exercise of mercy (and thus does not chastise you for your disobedience and excesses instantly). Surely He will gather you all together on the Day of Resurrection - the coming of which is beyond doubt; but those who have courted their own ruin are not going to believe.
*9. The subtlety of this expression should not go unnoticed. The unbelievers are asked to whom belongs whatever exists in either the heavens or on the earth. The inquirer then pauses to wait for the answer. Those questioned are themselves convinced that all belongs to God, yet while they dare not respond falsely, they are nevertheless not prepared to give the correct answer. Fearing that their response may be used as an argument against their polytheistic beliefs, they keep quiet. At this, the inquirer is told to answer the question himself and to say that all belongs to God.

وَلَهُ مَا سَكَنَ فِي اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ ۚ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ {6:13}
[Q6:13] Wa lahoo maa sakana fillaili wannahaar; wa Huwas Samee'ul Aleem.
[Q6:13] And to Him belongs whatever dwells in the night and the day; and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

Sakana means to dwell, to rest, to be still - which implies time and space. ALL THAT EXISTS IN TIME AND SPACE BELONGS TO ALLAH (SWT). So He is the owner of whatever is in time as well as of whatever is in space; so believe in His unity and profit by His mercy.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:13) And to Him belongs all that dwells in the night and the day. He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

قُلْ أَغَيْرَ اللَّهِ أَتَّخِذُ وَلِيًّا فَاطِرِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَهُوَ يُطْعِمُ وَلَا يُطْعَمُ ۗ قُلْ إِنِّي أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ ۖ وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ {6:14}
[Q6:14] Qul aghairal laahi attakhizu waliyyan faatiris samaawaati wal ardi wa Huwa yut'imu wa laa yut'am; qul inneee umirtu an akoona awwala man salama wa laa takoonanna minal mushrikeen.
[Q6:14] Say: Shall I take a guardian besides ALLAH (SWT), the Originator of the heavens and the earth, and He feeds (others) and is not (Himself) fed. Say: I am commanded to be the first who submits himself, and you should not be of the polytheists.

ISLAM means TOTAL SUBMISSION TO THE WILL OF ALLAH (SWT).  IN THIS SENSE ALL CREATURES IN THE HEAVENS AND ON THE EARTH, WILLINGLY OR UNWILLINGLY, HAVE SUBMITTED TO HIS WILL, ACCEPTED ISLAM, according to verse 3:83 of Ali Irnran; and in verse 19:93 of Maryam the word ‘abdiyat’ also refers to total submission of all creatures to the beneficent Lord of the worlds.
r  The Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) was the first ‘abid’ (worshipper of ALLAH (SWT)) among all His creation, THEREFORE it is wrong to say that he was the first convert, which implies that before that he was not a Muslim. "If ALLAH (SWT) had a son, I would be the first to worship", in Zukhruf 43:81, PROVES THE FACT THAT THE HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) WAS THE FIRST WORSHIPPER OF ALLAH (SWT) AMONG ALL HIS CREATION.
"Feeds but is not fed", is true both literally and figuratively. TO ALLAH (SWT) WE OWE THE SATISFACTION OF ALL NEEDS, BUT HE IS INDEPENDENT OF ALL NEEDS.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:14) Say: 'Shall I take for my guardian anyone other than Allah - the Originator of the heavens and earth; He Who feeds and Himself is not fed?' *10 Say: 'Surely I have been commanded to be the first among those who submit (to Allah) and not to be one of those who associate others with Allah in His divinity (even though others may do so).'
10. This remark contains a subtle sarcasm. Far from providing sustenance to their followers, the beings whom the polytheists set up as deities beside the true God were dependent upon them for their sustenance. No Pharaoh can maintain the pomp and splendour connected with his godhead unless his subjects pay their tax dues and make him other offerings. No deity can attract worshippers unless some of its devotees make an idol, place it in some magnificent temple, and decorate it lavishly. All these counterfeit gods are totally dependent upon their own servants. It is the Lord of the Universe alone Who is the True God, Whose godhead rests solely upon His.own power; Who needs the help of no one, whereas no one can dispense with His.

قُلْ إِنِّي أَخَافُ إِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبِّي عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ {6:15}
[Q6:15] Qul inneee akhaafu in 'asaitu Rabbee 'azaaba Yawmin 'Azeem.
[Q6:15] Say: Surely I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the chastisement of a grievous day.

MANKIND IS ADDRESSED THROUGH THE HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) THAT WHOSO disobeys ALLAH (SWT) should be ready to face the consequences, in the shape of a severe and eternal punishment, on the day of reckoning.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:15) Say: 'Surely do I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the chastisement of an awesome Day.

مَنْ يُصْرَفْ عَنْهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَدْ رَحِمَهُ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْمُبِينُ {6:16}
[Q6:16] Mai yusraf 'anhu Yawma'izin faqad rahimah; wa zaalikal fawzul mubeen.
[Q6:16] He from whom it is averted on that day, ALLAH (SWT) indeed has shown mercy to him; and this is a manifest achievement.

Those who receive mercy from their Lord shall be able to avert the torment of the day of judgement. IT IS DELIVERANCE, THE OBVIOUS FULFILMENT OF ALL DESIRES - THAT IS A SUPREME ACHIEVEMENT, A MANIFEST TRIUMPH.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:16) Whosoever has been spared chastisement on that Day, Allah has bestowed His mercy upon him. That is the manifest triumph.

وَإِنْ يَمْسَسْكَ اللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ وَإِنْ يَمْسَسْكَ بِخَيْرٍ فَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ {6:17}
[Q6:17] Wa iny-yamsaskal laahu bidurrin falaaa kaashifa lahoo illaa Huwa wa iny-yamsaska bikhairin fa Huwa 'alaa kulli shai'in Qadeer.
[Q6:17] And if ALLAH (SWT) touch you with affliction, there is none to take it off but He; and if He visit you with good, then He has power over all things.

The vulgar worship false gods out of fear that they would harm them, OR HOPE that they would confer some benefits on them. These false gods can do neither.
ALL POWER, ALL GOODNESS, IS IN THE HANDS OF ONE TRUE ALLAH (SWT). ALL ELSE IS PRETENCE OR ILLUSION.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:17) Should Allah touch you with affliction, there is none to remove it but He; and should He touch you with good, He has the power to do everything.

وَهُوَ الْقَاهِرُ فَوْقَ عِبَادِهِ ۚ وَهُوَ الْحَكِيمُ الْخَبِيرُ {6:18}
[Q6:18] Wa Huwal gaahiru fawqa 'ibaadih; wa Huwal Hakeemul Khabeer.
[Q6:18] And He is the Supreme, above His servants; and He is the Wise, the Aware.

ALLAH (SWT) IS THE ABSOLUTE SUPREME IN HIS INFINITE POWER, AND IN HIS INFINITE KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:18) He has the supreme hold over His servants. He is All-Wise, All-Aware.

قُلْ أَيُّ شَيْءٍ أَكْبَرُ شَهَادَةً ۖ قُلِ اللَّهُ ۖ شَهِيدٌ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۚ وَأُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنُ لِأُنْذِرَكُمْ بِهِ وَمَنْ بَلَغَ ۚ أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّ مَعَ اللَّهِ آلِهَةً أُخْرَىٰ ۚ قُلْ لَا أَشْهَدُ ۚ قُلْ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ وَإِنَّنِي بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا تُشْرِكُونَ {6:19}
[Q6:19] Qul ayyu shai'in akbaru shahaadatan qulil laahu shaheedum bainee wa bainakum; wa oohiya ilaiya haazal Qur'aanu li unzirakum bihee wa mam balagh; a'innakum latashhadoona anna ma'al laahi aalihatan ukhraa; qul laaa ashhad; qul innamaa Huwa Ilaahunw Waahidunw wa innanee baree'um mimmaa tushrikoon.
[Q6:19] Say: What thing is the weightiest in testimony? Say: ALLAH (SWT) is witness between you and me; and this Qur’an has been revealed to me that with it I may warn you and whomsoever it reaches. Do you really bear witness that there are other gods with ALLAH (SWT)? Say: I do not bear witness. Say: He is only one ALLAH (SWT), and surely I am clear of that which you set up (with Him).

THE MISSION OF THE HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) WAS UNIVERSAL. THE HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) WAS SENT TO THE WHOLE MANKIND AS A MESSENGER FOR ALL TIMES.
§  Matthew 10: 5, 6; and 15: 22 to 26 confirm that Isa was sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israil.”
Also refer to Araf 7:158; Anbiya 21:107 and Saba 34:28. The Qur’an, revealed to him, is a divine evidence of his prophethood.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:19) Ask them: 'Whose testimony is the greatest?' Say: 'Allah is the witness between me and you; *11 and this Qur'an was revealed to me that I should warn you thereby and also whomsoever it may reach.' Do you indeed testify that there are other gods with Allah? *12 Say: 'I shall never testify such a thing.'  *13 Say: 'He is the One God and 1 am altogether averse to all that you associate with Him in His divinity.'
*11. God Himself witnesses that the Prophet (peace be on him) has been designated by Him and that what he communicated was by His command.
*12. In order to bear witness to something, mere guesswork and imagination are not sufficient. What is required is knowledge on the basis of which a person can state something with full conviction. Hence. the question means: Did they really have knowledge of anyone other than God who could lay claim to man's worship and absolute service by dint of being the omnipotent sovereign, the one whose will prevailed throughout the universe?
*13. The interlocutor is instructed to tell people that if they wanted to bear false witness and testify without knowledge, they could do so, but that he himself could not do something so unreasonable.

الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَعْرِفُونَهُ كَمَا يَعْرِفُونَ أَبْنَاءَهُمُ ۘ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ {6:20}
[Q6:20] Allazeena aatainaa humul Kitaaba ya'rifoonahoo kamaa ya'rifoona abnaaa'ahum; allazeena khasirooo anfusahum fahum laa yu'minoon.
[Q6:20] Those whom We have given the Book recognize him as they recognize their sons; (as for) those who have lost their souls, they will not believe.

Refer to al Baqarah 2:146.
As explained in the commentary of al Baqarah 2:40 to 42, 75, 78 to 91, 101, 105, 109 and 124 the Jews and the Christians knew that the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) was the promised prophet as clearly mentioned in their books, BUT THEY OBSTINATELY REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE TRUTH.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:20) Those whom We have given the Book will recognize this just as they recognize their own ofspring; *14 but those who have courted their own ruin will not believe.
*14. Those who have knowledge of the Scriptures know for sure that God is One alone and that no one shares His godhead with Him. It is true that one can spot one's own child even in the midst of a large crowd of children. The same can be said about those well-versed in the Scriptures. Even if the true concept of godhead were interspersed among numerous false beliefs and concepts about God, those well-versed in the scriptural lore would be able to recognize without doubt which doctrine was true.
