SURAH AL-AN AAM (AYA 91 to 100)
SECTION 11
The Divine Revelation
Disbelievers
in the revelations to Apostle---Qur’an revelation for all ages.
يَلْعَبُونَ {6:91}

[Q6:91] And they do not assign to ALLAH (SWT) the attributes due to Him when they say: ALLAH (SWT) has not revealed anything to a mortal. Say: Who revealed the Book which Musa brought, a light and a guidance to men, which you make into scattered writings which you show while you conceal much? And you were taught what you did not know, (neither) you nor your fathers. Say: ALLAH (SWT) then leave them sporting in their vain discourses.

And you were taught what you did not know, (neither) you nor your fathers. Say: ALLAH (SWT) then leave them sporting in their vain discourses.
The
infidels in general and the Jews in particular went so far in their perversity as to deny the gift of
revelation altogether. THE TAWRAT WAS A LIGHT AND GUIDANCE. IT WAS ONE BOOK.
r The present Old Testament is a collection of "sheets"
of various kinds: see "The Tawrat"
in the commentary of al Ma-idah 5:116 to 120. The Jews disclose that which suits their
purpose and conceal much of its contents PARTICULARLY the prophecies
about the advent of the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad
wa ala ali Muhammad) (see al
Baqarah 2:40).
The
Muslims have been taught that which
neither they nor their ancestors knew (they were not left at the mercy of the
Jews). IT IS ALLAH (SWT) WHO HAS SENT DOWN THE
LAW. IF PEOPLE DO NOT BELIEVE, THEN LET THEM
PLUNGE INTO VAIN DISCOURSE.
MAN, MORE OFTEN, FAILS TO HAVE A CLEAR VIEW OF ALLAH (SWT)'S ATTRIBUTES AND THE SCOPE AND THE EFFECTS OF HIS
WILL. SOME MEN ACCEPT HIS AUTHORITY IN **THE SPHERE OF CREATION, BUT **LEAVE OUT LEGISLATION AND **DENY REVELATION AND **PROPHETHOOD.
This and the next verses confirm that He has
manifested His legislative authority through revelations revealed to His chosen
prophets. The Tawrat
revealed to Musa, has been cited as
an example. It was a light and a
guidance, containing knowledge and wisdom, taught to his followers, which
neither they nor their ancestors knew.
ß The Qur’an not only bears witness to its own truth BUT ALSO TESTIFIES the previous scriptures revealed to
Musa, Isa and other prophets (refer to the commentary of An-am 6:19).
In many verses
of the Qur’an ALLAH (SWT) HIMSELF BEARS WITNESS to His prophets AND THEIR divinely
commissioned missions; and His testimony is based upon the light and the
miracles referred to in the heavenly scriptures.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:91) They
did not form any proper estimate of Allah when they said: 'Allah has not
revealed anything to any man.' *59 Ask
them: 'The Book which Moses brought as a light and guidance for men and which
you keep in bits and scraps, some of which you disclose while the rest you
conceal, even though through it you were taught that which neither you nor your
forefathers knew -who was it who revealed it?' *60 Say:
'Allah!'- and then leave them to sport with their argumentation.
*59. In the light of the foregoing discussion and
commentary, it is quite evident that this statement comes from the Jews. Since
the Prophet (peace be on him) had asserted that he was a Prophet and that a
Book had been revealed to him, the unbelieving Quraysh and other polytheists of
Arabia naturally used to approach the Jews and the Christians - who believed in
the Prophets and in the Scriptures - and tried to solicit a candid answer from
them as to whether God's words had indeed been revealed to Muhammad (peace be
on him). Whatever answer they gave was then disseminated on all sides by the
active opponents of the Prophet (peace be on him) in order to create revulsion
against Islam. This is the reason for mentioning, and then refuting, this
statement by the Jews, which had been used by the opposition as an argument
against Islam.
One might wonder how a Jew, who believes in the Torah as a revealed Book of God, could say that God had revealed nothing to anyone. At times blind obstinacy and bigotry cause people to resort to arguments which strike at the roots of their own belief. These people were bent upon denying the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be on him), and this fanaticism had come to dominate them so much that they went so far as to deny the very institution of prophethood.
To say that peopte have not formed any proper estimate of God means that they have erred grossly in assessing His wisdom and power. Whoever says that God did not reveal knowledge of Reality and the code for man's guidance has fallen into one of two errors? Either he considers it impossible for man to become the recipient of God's revelation, and this constitutes a gross misjudgement of God's power, or he thinks that even though God has equipped man with intelligence and with the power to act as he chooses, He has nevertheless made no arrangement for his guidance, but has left him in this world altogether unguided and thus conferred upon him the right to behave in any way he likes. This is obviously a misjudgement of God's wisdom.
*60. The revelation of the Torah to Moses (peace be on him) is adduced by way of evidence since the Jews, to whom this response is addressed, believed that it had been revealed. It is obvious that their recognition of the Torah as the Book revealed to Moses negated their standpoint that God had never revealed anything to any human being. Their belief in the Torah at least proved that revelation to man is possible, and had actually taken place.

[Q6:92] And this is a Book We have revealed, blessed, verifying that which is before it, and that you may warn the metropolis and those around her; and those who believe in the hereafter believe in it, and they attend to their prayers constantly.
[Q6:92] And this is a Book We have revealed, blessed, verifying that which is before it, and that you may warn the metropolis and those around her; and those who believe in the hereafter believe in it, and they attend to their prayers constantly.
sembahyangnya.
Mubarak means abounding in good and blessed - bringing more
blessings of knowledge and wisdom than the previously revealed books.
Ummul Qura -
mother of cities refers to 1. Makka
the qibla and
centre of Islam, also 2. Asserted to be in
the middle of the earth; and before it was made the qibla of Islam, 3. Makka
was associated with Ibrahim and Ismail, the ancestors of the Holy
Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad)
and his Ahlul Bayt.
Ü "All around" would mean "the whole world" if we look upon Makka as the
centre. Also see commentary of al Baqarah 2:125 and Ali Imran 3:96.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:92) (Like
that Book) this too is a Book which We have revealed; full of blessing,
confirming what was revealed before it so that you might warn the people of the
Mother of Cities (Makka) and those around it. Those who believe in the
Hereafter believe in it, and are evermindful of their Prayers. *61
*61. The point argued above was that God's word can
be, and in the past has been, revealed to human beings. The next point is that
the message of Muhammad (peace be on him) is indeed the revealed word of God.
In order to establish this, four things are adduced as evidence: First, that
this Book is overflowing with God's grace and beneficence. In other words, it contains
the best possible principles for the well-being and salvation of mankind. It
lays down the true doctrines of belief. It urges man to righteous conduct and
inspires him to moral excellence. It contains guidance as to how one may live a
life of purity. And above all, it is free from any trace of the ignorance,
egocentricity, narrow-mindedness, iniquity, obscenity and other corruptions
with which the Jews and the Christians had overlaid their revealed Scriptures.
Second, this Book does not propound any guidance which is essentially divergent
from that previously revealed; rather it confirms and supports it. Third, the
purpose of the revelation of this Book is the same as that of the revelation of
Scriptures in the past, viz., to shake people out of their heedlessness and
warn them of the evil consequences of their corruption. Fourth, that the call
of this Book did not attract those who merely worshipped worldly advantages and
were slaves of their animal desires. On the contrary, it attracted those whose
vision goes beyond the narrow limits of worldly life. Moreover, the revolution
wrought in the lives of people under the influence of this Book has rendered
them conspicuously distinct from others in respect of piety and
godliness.
A Book with such characteristics and with such a wholesome impact on human beings can only be from God.

And if you had seen when the unjust shall be in the agonies of death and the angels shall spread forth their hands: Give up your souls; today shall you be recompensed with an ignominious chastisement because you spoke against ALLAH (SWT) other than the truth and (because) you showed pride against His communications.

This verse was revealed to condemn the half brother of Uthman, Abdullah bin abi Sarah (and men like him). He was a Jew BUT joined the group of pagans after
renouncing his faith. After becoming Muslim he
was sometimes asked to write down the revealed verses BUT he used to
change the words of the revealed verses while writing them, and then claimed that whatever he had composed
should have also been accepted as revelation.
Ø "Surrender your souls" indicates that soul is an entity which is separated from the body at
the time of death. To know about the human soul, please refer to the
commentary of al
Baqarah 2:30.

angels stretching out their hands (saying): 'Yield up your souls! Today you
will be recompensed with the chastisement of humiliation for the lie you spoke

and what you asserted is gone from you.

IN THIS VERSE "INTERCESSORS"
ARE [1] THE FALSE
RELIGIOUS LEADERS, [2] DEMI-GODS AND GODS, whom
the polytheists, out of ignorance regard as their saviours. **Please refer to the commentary of al Baqarah 2:48
and 123 to know about the divinely approved intercessors.
Ø WHEN THIS VERSE WAS REVEALED and the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma
sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) explained to Fatimah
binti Asad the mother of Ali
ibne Abi Talib, the meaning of furada (bare or
naked), she burst into tears. The Holy
Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali
Muhammad) called upon ALLAH (SWT) to raise
her duly clothed on the day of resurrection; and when she dies he used his
mantle to shroud her body.

all alone even as We had created you in the first instance, and you have left
behind all that We had bestowed upon you in the world. We do not see with you
your intercessors whom you imagined to have a share with Allah in your affairs.
You have now been cut off from one another and all those whom you imagined (to
be Allah's associates in your affairs) have failed you.'

The Triumph of the Truth
The
gradual growth in nature---Ascribing son to God.

The seed-grain and the date-stone are selected as
types in the vegetable kingdom, showing the dependence of our physical life on
it.
"Split and sprout":
both ideas are included in the root falaqa, and
third is expressed by the word "cleave",
in verse 96 of this surah, for the action of evolving daybreak
from the dark.
For vegetables, "split
and sprout" represent a double process: (*) the seeds divide, AND ONE PART shoots up seeking the light and
forming leaves and the visible parts of the future tree, AND THE OTHER PART digs
down, forming the roots and seeking sustenance from the inside depth. This is just one small instance of the
measure or disposition (judgement and decree) of the almighty and all-knowing
Lord.
± For taqdir refer
to the commentary of al Fatihah 1:2 under "rububiyat".
For "He brings forth the living from the dead"
refer to the commentary of al Baqarah 2:258 to 260.
± In verse 91 and 92 it has been said that only divine revelations, not conditioned by trial and error,
give knowledge and guidance. In the same manner it is
stated here that the process of nature
cannot be fully explained by the empirical method. THEREFORE existence of the
divine factor has to be acknowledged.
THE TERM LIFE AND DEATH ARE NOT ABSOLUTE OR INDEPENDENT.
The elemental matter of a body-cell may be described as a living being, but, in
view of the properties manifested in the cell, it is non-living.
ê
The Qur’anic explanation is based upon the actual phenomena active in
nature.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(6:95) Truly
it is Allah Who causes the grain *62 and the fruit-kernel to sprout. He brings forth
the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living. *63 Such
is Allah. So whither are you tending in error?
*62. The one who causes the seed-grain to split open
under the surface of the earth and then makes it grow and appear on the surface
as a plant is no other than God.
*63. To 'bring forth the living from the dead' means creating living beings out of dead matter. Likewise, 'to bring out the dead from the living' means to remove the lifeless elements from a living organism.

(6:96) It is He Who causes the dawn to split forth,
and has ordained the night for repose, and the sun and the moon for reckoning
time. All this is determined by Allah the Almighty, the All-Knowing.

At sea, on lands, or over mountains, whenever we
sweep over wide spaces, it is the stars that act as our guides, just as the sun
and moon have already been mentioned as our measure of time in the preceding verse.
µ It is true that ALLAH (SWT) has provided guiding
stars to man for his material benefit. It is also true that He has not left man
to bewilder in spiritual darkness, THEREFORE, He has sent down His chosen representatives to guide mankind
to the right path.
According to Ali ibn Ibrahim's Tafsir nujum means
the holy Imams among the Ahlul Bayt of
the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali
Muhammad).

(6:97) It
is He Who has made for you the stars that you may follow the right direction in
the darkness of the land and the sea. We have indeed spelled out signs for the
people who have knowledge. *64
*64. By 'signs' are meant all that support the proposition
that there is only one God, that is, no one has either the attributes of God or
any share in His authority or can rightfully claim any of the rights which
belong exclusively to Him. But the ignorant cannot benefit from these signs,
which are scattered all around, in order to arrive at an understanding of the
Truth. Only those who observe the phenomena of the universe in a careful and
systematic manner, and do so with a correct perspective, can truly benefit from
these signs.

nasinw waahidatin famustaqarrunw wa mustawda'; qad fassalnal Aayaati liqaw
miny-yafqahoon.
[Q6:98] And He it is Who has brought you into being from a single soul, then there is (for you) a resting-place and a depository; indeed We have made plain the communications for a people who understand.
[Q6:98] And He it is Who has brought you into being from a single soul, then there is (for you) a resting-place and a depository; indeed We have made plain the communications for a people who understand.
It is one of the wonders of ALLAH (SWT)'s creation,
that from one person (Adam) we
have grown to be so many, AND EACH individual has so many *faculties and *capacities,
different from one another, YET WE are all one. Refer to commentary
of al Nisa 4:1.
õ ALLAH (SWT) has produced two sexes from a single
soul. The male is termed as the depository and the female as the repository.
õ In al Hajj 22:5, al Mursalat 77:21 and in many other
verses, the mother has been described as the resting place.

(6:98) It
is He Who created you out of a single being, *65 and appointed for each of you a time-limit and
a resting place. We have indeed spelled out Our signs for those who can
understand. *66
*65. This means that God caused the human race to
originate from one human being.
*66. If one were to observe carefully the creation of the human species, its division into male and female, the proliferation of the human race by procreation, the passing of life through its several stages in the womb of the mother from conception to childbirth, one would perceive innumerable signs to help one grasp the truth mentioned above. But only those who make proper use of their intellect can be led by means of these signs to an understanding of Reality. Those who live like animals, who are concerned merely with the satisfaction of their lusts and desires, can perceive nothing significant in these phenomena.

[Q6:99]
And He it is Who sends down water from the cloud, then We bring forth with
it buds of all (plants), then We bring forth from it green (foliage) from which
We produce grain piled up (in the ear); and of the palm-tree, of the sheaths of
it, come forth clusters (of dates) within reach, and gardens of grapes and
olives and pomegranates, alike and unlike; behold the fruit of it when it
yields the fruit and the ripening of it; most surely there are signs in this
for a people who believe.

ALTHOUGH THE SOURCE (RAIN) IS SINGLE, BUT THE PRODUCE IS OF DIVERSE VARIETIES.
See commentary of verses 95 and
96 of this surah.
In these things there are signs for people who believe in the real
fruits of spiritual life. UNDERSTANDING IS A HIGHER FACULTY THAN KNOWLEDGE, and is necessary for
knowing the meaning and purpose of this life.

(6:99) And it is He Who has sent down water from the
heavens, and thereby We have brought vegetation of every kind, and out of this
We have brought forth green foliage and then from it close-packed ears of corn,
and out of the palm-tree from the sheath of it - thick clustered dates, hanging
down with heaviness, and gardens of vines, and the olive tree, and the
pomegranate - all resembling one another and yet so different. Behold their
fruit when they bear fruit and ripen! Surely, in all this there are signs for
those who believe.
عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ {6:100}
[Q6:100] Wa ja'aloo lillaahi shurakaaa'al
jinna wa khalaqa hum wa kharaqoo lahoo baneena wa banaatim bighairi 'ilm
Subhaanahoo wa Ta'aalaa 'amma yasifoon.
[Q6:100] And they make the jinn associates with ALLAH (SWT), while He created them, and they falsely attribute to Him sons and daughters without knowledge; glory be to Him, and highly exalted is He above what they ascribe (to Him).
[Q6:100] And they make the jinn associates with ALLAH (SWT), while He created them, and they falsely attribute to Him sons and daughters without knowledge; glory be to Him, and highly exalted is He above what they ascribe (to Him).
According to al Rahman 55:14 and 15
man is
stated to have been created from clay, while
Jinn from fire. See commentary of al Baqarah 2:30 under "Jinn".
Some people
believe [*]that ALLAH (SWT) is the creator of good
and Shaytan (Jinn) is the creator of evil. They also believe [*]that Shaytan is the cause of loss and sorrow.
Surah
al Falaq REFUTES
THIS ASSUMPTION. IT IS STATED IN THIS VERSE THAT SUCH PEOPLE ARE POLYTHEISTS
BECAUSE IT IS ALLAH (SWT) WHO CREATED THE JINN.
The pagans
worship the wonders of nature, BECAUSE they cannot
understand them as hidden spiritual forces, so they
commit shirk by associating them with ALLAH (SWT).

(6:100) And
yet, some people have come to associate the jinn with Allah in His
divinity, *67 even
though it is He Who created them; and in ignorance they impute to Him sons and
daughters. *68 He
is Holy and Exalted far above that which they attribute to Him.
*67. Because of man's imaginativeness and
superstitious disposition, he has often held other invisible beings to be
associated with God in His governance of the universe and in making and marring
man's destiny. For example, the deity of rain, and the deity of vegetation, the
god of wealth and the god of health, and so on. Such beliefs are found among
all the polytheistic nations of the world.
*68. The ignorant Arabs considered angels to be the daughters of God. In the same way, other polytheistic nations wove a network of bloodrelationships with God, producing thereby a whole crop of gods and goddesses descended from the Creator.
