SURAH AL-IMRAN (AYAH 71 to 80)

يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لِمَ تَلْبِسُونَ الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُونَ الْحَقَّ وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ {3:71}
[Q3:71] Yaaa Ahalal Kitaabi lima talbisoonal haqqa bilbaatili wa taktumoonal haqqa wa antum ta'lamoon.
[Q3:71] O followers of the Book! Why do you confound the truth with the falsehood and hide the truth while you know?
[Q3:71] Wahai Ahli Kitab!

THE JEWS and THE CHRISTIANS knew [1] the truth about the unity of ALLAH (SWT) (Exodus: 20: 1 to 4; Deut 6: 4; Isaiah 42: 8; 44: 6; 45: 5, 18, 21, 22; 48:12; (1) Corinthians 8: 4, 6; Esphesians 4: 5, 6) and [2] the promised advent of the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) (Acts 3: 22 to 24; Deut 18: 18,19; John 14: 16, 17, 26; 16: 7 to 14) mentioned in their own books, yet they deliberately confounded the truth with falsehood.
Also refer to the commentary of al Baqarah 2:40, 41, and 42.

(3:71) People of the Book! Why do you confound Truth with falsehood, and why do you conceal the Truth knowingly?

SECTION 8
Attempts to discredit Islam
A show of false belief followed by relapse---Their dishonest dealings with others---Their alteration of scriptures---Claim to divinity not to be attributable to any apostle.

وَقَالَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ آمِنُوا بِالَّذِي أُنْزِلَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَجْهَ النَّهَارِ وَاكْفُرُوا آخِرَهُ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ {3:72}
[Q3:72] Wa qaalat taaa'ifatum min Ahlil Kitaabi aaminoo billazeee unzila 'alal lazeena aamanoo wajhan nahaari wakfurooo aakhirahoo la'alla hum yarji'oon.
[Q3:72] And a party of the followers of the Book say: Avow belief in that which has been revealed to those who believe, in the first part of the day, and disbelieve at the end of it, perhaps they go back on their religion.

IT WAS THE POLICY OF THE JEWS to make a show of belief for a short space of time AND THEN in no time renounce their belief in it, SO AS to confuse the simple-minded people. Instances of such mendacious conduct are not unknown to Jewish history, but their intrigues to hoodwink the believers never succeeded.
Ì  The books of traditions and theology written under the patronage of the Muslim rulers (usurpers of the rights of the Ahlul Bayt) ALSO FOLLOW the above noted strategy to lower the glorious merits of the Ahlul Bayt in the sight of unwary people. They narrate some sayings of the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) praising the Ahlul Bayt to first establish their impartiality, THEN immediately add spurious traditions to belittle the merit they had reported.
Many a so-called impartial orientalist also praises Islam to conceal the venom which is injected shrewdly within the lines.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(3:72) A party of the People of the Book said: 'Believe in the morning what has been revealed to those who believe, and then deny it in the evening that they may thus retract (from their faith).' *61
*61. This was one of the devices adopted by the leaders and rabbis of the Jews who lived on the outskirts of Madina in order to damage the mission of Islam. To demoralize the Muslims and create misgivings about the Prophet (peace be on him), they sent their agents to embrace Islam publicly, then to renounce it, and subsequently to go about telling people they had done so because of the faults they had found in Islam, the Muslims and their Prophet.

وَلَا تُؤْمِنُوا إِلَّا لِمَنْ تَبِعَ دِينَكُمْ قُلْ إِنَّ الْهُدَىٰ هُدَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُؤْتَىٰ أَحَدٌ مِثْلَ مَا أُوتِيتُمْ أَوْ يُحَاجُّوكُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّكُمْ ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ الْفَضْلَ بِيَدِ اللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۗ وَاللَّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ {3:73}
[Q3:73] Wa laa tu'minooo illaa liman tabi'a deenakum qul innal hudaa hudal laahi ai yu'taaa ahadum misla maaa ooteetum aw yuhaaajjookum 'inda Rabbikum, qul innal fadla biyadil laah; yu'teehi mai yashaaa'; wallaahu Waasi'un 'Aleem.
[Q3:73] And do not believe but in him who follows your religion. Say: Surely the (true) guidance is the guidance of ALLAH (SWT) -- That one may be given (by Him) the like of what you were given; or they would contend with you by an argument before your Lord. Say: Surely grace is in the hand of ALLAH (SWT), He gives it to whom He pleases; and ALLAH (SWT) is Ample-giving, Knowing.

The true grammatical construction is to take the sentence "Do not believe in any but those who follow your religion" as the supplementary to the sentence of the preceding verse 72 (from "believe in" to "may return.)" The supplementary clause makes known that the doctrine followed by the Jews is false, THEREFORE, such tricks would not avail anything. THEY WHO RECEIVE GUIDANCE, RECEIVE IT FROM ALLAH (SWT); NONE IS ABLE TO MISLEAD THEM. HE GUIDES WHOM HE WILLS TO THE RIGHT FAITH (as He has given guidance to the people of the book) AND ALSO establishes His rightly guided chosen representatives therein so that they can argue against the people of the book before the Lord.
±  Fadl implies *knowledge and *wisdom or *prophethood. Please refer to the commentary of al Baqarah 2:269.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(3:73) They also say among themselves: 'Do not follow anyone except him who follows your faith.' Say: 'Surely true guidance is Allah's. It is His favour that anyone should be given the like of what you have been given in the past, and that others should have been given firm evidence to proffer against you before your Lord.' Say: 'Surely bounty is in the Hand of Allah; He gives it to whom He wills. Allah is All-Embracing, *62 All-Knowing. *63
*62. The word wasi' which is used here occurs in the Qur'an in three contexts. The first context is the narrow-mindedness and mean outlook of certain people, in contrast to which God is not 'narrow'. The second context is the denunciation of miserliness, meanness and niggardliness, in contrast to which God is Generous and Munificent. The third context is the ascription of finite, limited concepts to God as a result of their limitedimagination, whereas the truth is that God is infinite (see Surah 2, n. 116 above).

يَخْتَصُّ بِرَحْمَتِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۗ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ {3:74}
[Q3:74] Yakhtassu birahmatihee mai yashaaa'; wallaahu zulfadil 'azeem.
[Q3:74] He specially chooses for His mercy whom He pleases; and ALLAH (SWT) is the Lord of mighty grace.

IN THIS VERSE "MERCY" IMPLIES *PROPHETHOOD, *ISLAM or *REVELATIONS (OF THE QUR’AN)…….
Man yasha- Some commentators infer that ALLAH (SWT)'s blessings are bestowed without taking merits into consideration, BUT, ALTHOUGH HIS WILL IS NOT AT ALL RESTRICTED BY ANY CONDITION, IT CANNOT BE DENIED THAT HIS WISDOM AND JUSTICE, WHICH PERMEATE HIS WILL, DO NOT LET ARBITRARINESS PREVAIL.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(3:74) He singles out for His mercy whomever He wills, Allah is possessed of abounding bounty.'
*63. That is, God knows who deserves to be honoured and exalted.

وَمِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مَنْ إِنْ تَأْمَنْهُ بِقِنْطَارٍ يُؤَدِّهِ إِلَيْكَ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ إِنْ تَأْمَنْهُ بِدِينَارٍ لَا يُؤَدِّهِ إِلَيْكَ إِلَّا مَا دُمْتَ عَلَيْهِ قَائِمًا ۗ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا لَيْسَ عَلَيْنَا فِي الْأُمِّيِّينَ سَبِيلٌ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ {3:75}
[Q3:75] Wa min Ahlil Kitaabi man in taamanhu biqintaariny yu'addihee ilaika wa minhum man in taamanhu bideenaaril laa yu'addiheee ilaika illaa maa dumta 'alaihi qaaa' imaa; zaalika biannahum qaaloo laisa 'alainaa fil ummiyyeena sabeelunw wa yaqooloona 'alal laahil kaziba wa hum ya'lamoon.
[Q3:75] And among the followers of the Book there are some such that if you entrust one (of them) with a heap of wealth, he shall pay it back to you; and among them there are some such that if you entrust one (of them) with a dinar he shall not pay it back to you except so long as you remain firm in demanding it; this is because they say: There is not upon us in the matter of the unlearned people any way (to reproach); and they tell a lie against ALLAH (SWT) while they know.

Even among the Jews were some whose honesty and integrity has been acknowledged. Such Jews eventually embraced Islam. THE DISCHARGE OF A TRUST, as has also been underlined in Nisa 4:58, Muminun 23:8 and Ahzab 33:72, is so emphasised in Islam that it is admired even in the enemies of the faith. WHATEVER FACULTIES’ MAN POSSESSES is an endowment entrusted to him by ALLAH (SWT), THEREFORE, he must use them to fulfil His will and command.
ALL CONTRACTS, PACTS AND TREATIES, MADE BETWEEN MEN, WHETHER POLITICAL, ECONOMIC OR SOCIAL, SHOULD BE TREATED AS A SACRED TRUST AND DISCHARGED ACCORDING TO THE TERMS OF THE AGREED COVENANT. Whoever keeps his pledge and fulfils his engagement to his fellow-creatures is exactly like he who keeps his covenant with ALLAH (SWT).
     DUE TO THIS QUALITY the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) was known as al aminthe trustworthy, even before he publicly made known his divine mission. HIS WORST ENEMIES USED TO DEPOSIT THEIR VALUABLES WITH HIM. At the time of leaving makka, he handed over the deposits to ALI who returned them to the depositors on his behalf.
     After the fall of Makka, he entered the city and took the keys of the Ka-bah from its custodian, and after removing the idols, returned the keys to him, saying THAT ALL THE CUSTOMS AND REGULATIONS OF THE PAGAN DAYS HAD BEEN CANCELLED BY ISLAM SAVE THE FULFILMENT OF TRUSTS.
According to the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad), a man who prays, fasts and behaves like a believer, BUT lies when he talks, breaks his promises and cheats if trusted, is in fact a hypocrite.
"There is no reproach attaching to us in the matter of those who are not of our race and faith; we owe no duty to them", sums up the attitude of the Jews towards other nations. As has been rightly observed by Hastings' "Dictionary of the Bible", the Jews were enemies of the human race, and the tendency of the Christians was no better.
IT IS ISLAM, as explained above, which does not discriminate among people on account of religion, creed or faith BUT DECLARES that [1] telling the truth, [2] fulfilling the promise AND [3] discharging the trust (whoever may be concerned) are the principal requisites of piety
Ë  Qintar is much property heaped up or maximum measurement of gold.
Ë  Dinar is the minimum measurement (unit) of gold.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(3:75) And among the People of the Book there are some who would restore you even if you were to entrust a treasure of gold, and of them there are some whom were you to entrust with one gold piece, will not restore it unless you stand over them. That is because they say: 'We will not be taken to task for whatever we may do to non-Jews (ummls). *64 Thus they falsely fix a lie upon Allah, and do so wittingly.
*64. This was not merely the misconception of the ignorant mass of Jews. Their religious teaching was the same and the legal doctrines of their accepted religious authorities and jurists reflected this idea. With regard to injunctions on loans and interest the Bible makes a clear distinction between an Israelite and a non-Israelite (Deuteronomy 15: 1-3; 23: 20).
It is stated in the Talmud that if the bullock of an Israelite injures the bullock of a non-Israelite the former is not liable to any penalty, but not vice versa. Similarly, it is laid down that if anyone finds an unclaimed article he should enquire amongst the people who live nearby. If they are Israelites he should announce his find; if not he may keep it without saying anything further.
Rabbi Samuel Ishmael says that if a dispute between a Jew and a Gentile is brought before a judge, he should base his verdict on Jewish law if it is favourable; if the law of the Gentiles goes in favour of the Jew he should justify his judgement by saying that the Gentile has no valid ground for complaint since judgement was given according to his own law. Even if both laws are unfavourable towards the Jew the judge should still find some pretext for deciding in his favour. Rabbi Samuel says that benefit should be derived from every mistake the non-Israelite may make. (See Paul Isaac Hershon, Talmudic Miscellany, London, 1880, pp. 37 and 210-21.)

بَلَىٰ مَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِعَهْدِهِ وَاتَّقَىٰ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَّقِينَ {3:76}
[Q3:76] Balaa man awfaa bi'ahdihee wattaqaa fainnal laaha yuhibbul muttaqeen.
[Q3:76] Yea, whoever fulfills his promise and guards (against evil) -- then surely ALLAH (SWT) loves those who guard (against evil).
[Q3:76] Bahkan (mereka berdosa memakan hak orang kerana) sesiapa yang menyempurnakan janjinya (mengenai hak orang lain) dan bertakwa, maka sesungguhnya ALLAH (SwT) mengasihi orang-orang yang bertakwa.

As stated in the preceding verse FULFILMENT OF A COVENANT IS A QUALITY OF THE PIOUS WHOM ALLAH (SWT) LOVES.
IT ALSO REFERS TO THE COVENANT THE HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) OBTAINED FROM HIS FOLLOWERS AT GHADIR KHUM -"Of whomsoever I am the mawla (lord master) Ali is his mawla." (See commentary of al Ma-idah 5:67).
Ì  Bayator allegiance to the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad), or acceptance of his order is a covenant with ALLAH (SWT).
Those [1] who turned on their heels, or [2] deserted him in the hour of need, or [3] wilfully ignored his declaration, have actually broken the covenant made with ALLAH (SWT). The books of Islamic history clearly mention the names of such persons.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(3:76) But Allah loves only those who fulfil their covenant and fear Allah. Truly Allah loves the God-fearing.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا أُولَٰئِكَ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَلَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ {3:77}
[Q3:77] Innal lazeena yashtaroona bi'ahdil laahi wa aymaanihim samanan qaleelan ulaaa'ika laa khalaaqa lahum fil Aakhirati wa laa yukallimuhumul laahu wa laa yanzuru ilaihim Yawmal Qiyaamati wa laa yuzakkeehim wa lahum 'azabun 'aleem.
[Q3:77] (As for) those who take a small price for the covenant of ALLAH (SWT) and their own oaths-- surely they shall have no portion in the hereafter, and ALLAH (SWT) will not speak to them, nor will He look upon them on the day of resurrection nor will He purify them, and they shall have a painful chastisement.

THOSE WHO BREAK THE COVENANT MADE WITH ALLAH (SWT) AND HIS HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD)
1.        Will have no share in the rewards to be given on the Day of Judgement;
2.        Nor will ALLAH (SWT) speak to them
3.        Or look at them (pay attention to their repentance),
4.        Nor will He purify them-
5.        A grievous punishment awaits them which will torment them for ever.
Please refer to the commentary of al Baqarah 2:174.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(3:77) There shall be no share in the Life to Come for those who sell away the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a trivial gain. On the Day of Resurrection Allah will neither address them, look at them, nor will He purify them. *65 A painful chastisement lies ahead of them.
*65. The reason is that, despite their worst crimes, they still thought that on the Day of Judgement they alone would be honoured with God's favour, and that towards them alone He would turn His gracious attention. They also entertained the belief that if they had been stained by any trace of sin, it would be washed away by the grace of their pious elders. Such people are warned here that the treatment meted out to them in the Next Life will be altogether contrary to their expectations.

وَإِنَّ مِنْهُمْ لَفَرِيقًا يَلْوُونَ أَلْسِنَتَهُمْ بِالْكِتَابِ لِتَحْسَبُوهُ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ {3:78}
[Q3:78] Most surely there is a party amongst those who distort the Book with their tongue that you may consider it to be (a part) of the Book, and they say, It is from ALLAH (SWT), while it is not from ALLAH (SWT), and they tell a lie against ALLAH (SWT) whilst they know.

Yalwuna alsinatahum- corrupting the correct recital of the book by tongue twisting (with an evil motive to distort the true meanings of the words) was resorted to by the Jews and the Christians to pervert and mutilate the Tawrat and the Injil.
Ä  WHEN the half-hearted believers and the hypocrites began to write the Qur’an, they relied upon the seven different types of recitations which were in vogue in those days, BUT only Ali and the Ahlul Bayt knew the correct pronunciation of each word of the book of ALLAH (SWT).
Ä  It was Ali who was with the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) from the beginning of the revelation of the book, and THEREFORE RIGHTLY CLAIMED that he alone knew why, when and for whom every verse of the book was revealed.
In view of the sayings of the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad), Ali's claim has never been challenged by any companion of the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad), or any of the scholars who follow them as their leaders.
Ali and the Ahlul Bayt made it certain that none should distort the true meaning of any verse of the Qur’an, SINCE the people of the book had bartered ALLAH (SWT)'s covenant and their oaths at a small price for limited interests, AND, AFTER making additions and omissions of their own, falsely claimed that they were from ALLAH (SWT).
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(3:78) And there is a party among them who twist their tongues while reciting the Book to make you think that it is part of the Book when in fact it is not. *66 They say: 'It is from Allah', when in fact it is not from Allah. They falsely fix a lie upon Allah, and do so wittingly.
*66. This could mean that they either distort the meaning of the Scriptures or twist the words of the text in order to misinterpret it. It’s real meaning, however, seems to be that when, during their reading of the Scriptures, they encounter any word or sentence which goes against their interests, and the beliefs and notions which they cherish, they distort the meaning of it by deliberately twisting their tongues. Instances of such tongue-twisting are not altogether wanting among those who, despite their belief in the Qur'an, share some of these people's characteristics. For instance, some people who stress the superhuman character of the Prophet (peace be on him) misread the following verse: innama ana basharun mithlukum (Qur'an 18: 110) (I am nothing but a human being like you), replacing innama by inna ma ana and translate it: '(O Prophet), say to them: "I am not a human being like you."

مَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَنْ يُؤْتِيَهُ اللَّهُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحُكْمَ وَالنُّبُوَّةَ ثُمَّ يَقُولَ لِلنَّاسِ كُونُوا عِبَادًا لِي مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلَٰكِنْ كُونُوا رَبَّانِيِّينَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تُعَلِّمُونَ الْكِتَابَ وَبِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَدْرُسُونَ {3:79}
[Q3:79] Maa kaana libasharin ai yu'tiyahul laahul Kitaaba walhukma wan Nubuwwata summa yaqoola linnaasi koonoo 'ibaadal lee min doonil laahi wa laakin koonoo rabbaaniy yeena bimaa kuntum tu'allimoonal Kitaaba wa bimaa kuntum tadrusoon.
[Q3:79] It is not meet for a mortal that ALLAH (SWT) should give him the Book and the wisdom and prophethood, then he should say to men: Be my servants rather than ALLAH (SWT)'s; but rather (he would say): Be worshippers of the Lord because of your teaching the Book and your reading (it yourselves).

ISA, AS A PROPHET, did not teach people to worship him or to make him as co-equal with ALLAH (SWT) in any sense of the word. EVERY PROPHET OF ALLAH (SWT) INVITED PEOPLE TO FOLLOW HIM TO OBEY ALLAH (SWT), AND SURELY NOT TO WORSHIP HIS SELF. It is a false accusation and slander to say that any of the prophets had asked people to deify them.
Rabbaniyyina (root is rabb) means those highly learned holy men who are wholly devoted to the Lord, and possess the wisdom of the Lord.
§   Abu Rafi, one of the elders of the Jews of Najran, asked the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad):
"Do you invite us to worship you?"
The Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) answered, "I take refuge with ALLAH (SWT), neither I worship any ALLAH (SWT) save ALLAH (SWT) , nor I ask any one to worship any ALLAH (SWT) save ALLAH (SWT) ".
According to Minhaj al Sadiqin and Umdatul Bayan when the Holy Prophet (ALLAHuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad) completed his reply this verse was revealed.
Ì  Not only the pagans but also the early Christian church indulged in angel-worship.
ALLAH (SWT) HAD MADE SOME OF THE PROPHETS TO EXCEL OTHERS (Baqarah 2:253), BUT all of them were the obedient servants of ALLAH (SWT) BECAUSE they were created beings, subordinate to His will and command. People are advised to put into practice the divine commands mentioned in the book which the prophets of ALLAH (SWT) used to preach, and reflect the lessons they taught, in letter and spirit, in their deeds.
THAT WHICH HAS BEEN SAID IN THESE TWO VERSES IS FULLY INCORPORATED IN ISLAM, SUBMISSION TO THE WILL OF ALLAH (SWT), SO IT IS A WARNING TO THE FOLLOWERS OF THE HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) ALSO.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(3:79) It does not befit a man that Allah should grant him His Book and sound judgement and prophet-hood, and thereafter he should say to men: 'Become servants to me apart from Allah.' He would rather say: 'Become dedicated men of Allah, *67 in accord with the dictates of the Book you have been teaching and studying.'
*67. The term rabbani is used here to denote Jewish religious scholars and functionaries who were supposed to provide true religious guidance to establish their rites of worship, implement religious laws, and so on. The same word occurs in Surah 5: 44 and 63. In the Christian tradition the word 'divine' is used as an equivalent to the word rabbani.

وَلَا يَأْمُرَكُمْ أَنْ تَتَّخِذُوا الْمَلَائِكَةَ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ أَرْبَابًا ۗ أَيَأْمُرُكُمْ بِالْكُفْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ أَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ {3:80}
[Q3:80] Wa laa yaamurakum an tattakhizul malaaa 'ikata wan Nabiyyeena arbaabaa; a yaamurukum bilkufri ba'da iz antum muslimoon.
[Q3:80] And neither would he enjoin you that you should take the angels and the prophets for lords; what! Would he enjoin you with unbelief after you are Muslims?
(see commentary for verse 79)
______________________________________________________________________________________________
(3:80) He will never enjoin you to take the angels or Prophets for your lords. Will he enjoin upon you unbelief when you have submitted yourselves to Allah? *68

*68. This refutation is directed at all the false concepts which were attributed to the Messengers of God by various nations, and then made an integral part of the religious scriptures. These concepts were false in that they elevated either the Prophets or the angels to the level of deities
