SURAH (47) MUHMMAD (AYA 21 to 38)
الْأَمْرُ فَلَوْ صَدَقُوا اللَّهَ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَهُمْ {47:21}

[Q47:21] Obedience and a gentle word (was proper); but when the affair becomes settled, then if they remain true to ALLAH (SWT) it would certainly be better for them.
[Q47:21] (Mereka selalu berkata:
"If they were true to ALLAH (SWT)" PROVES THAT THEY WERE NOT SINCERE AND
LOYAL. IT IS A CONDEMNATION.
±
Ibn
Abbas had interpreted this verse as such.
The command of ALLAH
(SWT) must be obeyed. There is no room for personal opinions.

(47:21) (They keep affirming their)
obedience and saying good words. But when a course of action was clearly
determined, it would have been better for them if they had proved true to
Allah.

[Q47:22] (Kalau kamu tidak mematuhi

(47:22) Now,
if you were to turn away, *33 what
else can be expected but that you will work corruption in the land and fly at
each other’s throats? *34
*33 Another translation of the words in the original
can be; "If you became rulers over the people, "
*34 Its one meaning is; 'If at this time you shirk supporting and defending Islam and refrain from fighting with your life and wealth for the cause of me great reformist revolution which the Holy Prophet Muhammad (upon whom be Allah's peace and blessings) and his Companions are struggling to bring about, there will be no other consequence of this than that you would return to the same system of ignorance in which you have been cutting each other's throat since centuries, burying your children alive and filling God's earth with injustice and wickedness." Its other meaning is: 'You are a people of depraved character. You are not at aII sincere in your claim of having affirmed the Faith, because you are not prepared to make any sacrifice in its cause. Now, is AIIah gives you power in the land and entrusts the affairs of the world to you when morally you are unsound and unreliable, what else can be expected of you than that you would commit tyranny and mischief and resort to killing of your own near and dear ones.
This verse clearly points out that Islam forbids severing of relations with the kindred. On the other hand, in positive terms also, at several places in the Qur'an, treating the relatives kindly and well has been enjoined and counted among the major virtues. (For instance, see AI-Baqarah: 83, 177: An-Nisa': 8, 36; An-Nahl: 90. Bani Isra'il: 26; An-Nur: 22). The word rahm in Arabic is used far kinship and relationship by blood metaphorically. AII the relations of a person, whether near or distant, are his kinsmen (dhwil-arham). The nearer the relationship the greater the right one has upon the other and graver the sin of severing the ties of blood. To treat the kindred well implies that one should do one's utmost in doing whatever good one possibly can to one's relative, should avoid doing any iII or harm to him. Reasoning from this very verse Hadrat 'Umar had forbidden as unlawful selling of the slave girl who had given birth to a child from her master, and the Companions had concurred with him in this. Hakim in his Musradrik has related on the authority of Hadrat Buraidah that one day when he was sitting among the audience of Hadrat 'Umar, suddenly a clamour arose in the street. On inquiring it was known that a slave girl was being sold and her daughter was crying, Hadrat 'Umar immediately got the Ansar and the Muhajirin together and put before them the question: °Do you find in the Religion that Muhammad (upon whom be Allah's peace) has brought any room for severing of relations between the blood relationships?" Everybody replied in the negative. Thereupon, Hadrat 'Umar said: Then, how is it that in your houses a mother is being separated from her daughter? Could there be a greater and more serious instance of the cutting of these relationships? Then he recited this verse. The people said: You may adopt whatever measure you deem fit to stop this practice. At this Hadrat 'Umar issued this decree for enforcement in all the Islamic territories: "No slave-girl who has given birth to a child from her master is to be sold because this is breaking of kinship ties which is not lawful."

ISLAM IS NOT A BLIND FAITH. Islam wants every individual to reflect on the
Word of ALLAH (SWT) AND KNOW THE TRUTH FOR
ONE’S OWN SELF. THE RELIGION OF ALLAH (SWT) IS BASED
UPON REASON, INTELLECT AND WISDOM.
What the study of the history of human society brings to light confirms
the inevitability of the laws of Islam as the only source of establishing order
and justice.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(47:24) Do they, then, not reflect on the Qur’an? Or
are there locks on their hearts? *35
*35 That is,
'Either these people do not ponder over the Qur'an at all, or if they try to
ponder over it, its teachings and meaning do not enter their hearts, because
they have put locks on them." As for this that "there are their locks
upon the hearts," it means this: "There are such locks on them as are
specially meant for the hearts which are not susceptible to the
truth."

This verse applies to [1] the hypocrites and [2] those who
deviated from the path of ALLAH (SWT) in their mad rush for [*] power, [*] pomp and
[*] position AFTER THE DEPARTURE OF THE HOLY
PROPHET (ALLAHUMA
SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) FROM THIS WORLD.
Ü It
is related in Sahih
Muslim and other books,
“That the HOLY PROPHET
said that on the Day of Judgment a group of his companions would be driven to
the hell-fire. When asked about the cause, for they were so close and intimate
with the HOLY PROPHET, it would be said, BECAUSE IMMEDIATELY after the departure
of the HOLY PROPHET from the world, they turned disbelievers and rebelled
against the Word of ALLAH (SWT) and the word of the HOLY PROPHET and held
authority unwarrantedly and effected a great corruption in the religion.”
THE HISTORY OF THE SO-CALLED FOLLOWERS OF THE HOLY PROPHET, AT EVERY TURN, RECORDS THE CRIMES COMMITTED AGAINST
THE AHLUL BAIT AND THEIR FOLLOWERS.
The tragedy of Karbala is more than enough to condemn and curse the
so-called followers of Islam forever, despite the apologies put forward by
their theoreticians, BECAUSE verse 28 clearly says
that all their deeds will be rendered null and void, and wrath of ALLAH (SWT)
will seize them.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(47:25) Certainly those who have turned
their backs on the True Guidance after it became manifest to them, Satan has
embellished their ways for them and has buoyed them up with false hopes.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(47:26) This, because they said to those who are averse
to the faith that Allah has revealed: “In some matters we shall obey
you.” *36 Allah has full knowledge of their secret
parleys.
*36 That is,
"In spite of professing the Faith and being counted among the Muslims,
they went on conspiring secretly with the enemies of Islam and even pledged to
support them in certain matters."

(see
commentary for verse 25)
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(47:27) But how will they fare when angels will take
their souls at death and will carry them, striking their faces and backs? *37
*37 That is,
"In the world they adopted this attitude so that they may safeguard their
interests and may protect themselves from the dangers of the conflict between
Islam and infidelity, but how will they escape Allah's wrath after death? At
that time no device of theirs will prove helpful for them to remain safe from
the punishment by the angels. "This verse also is one of those verses that
point to the torment of barzakh (i.e. torment 'of the grave). It clearly shows
that the unbelievers and hypocrites start being afflicted with the torment
right from the time of death, and this torment is different from the punishment
which they will get on Resurrection after their cases will have been decided by
Allah. (For further explanation, see An-Nisa': 97: AI-An'am: 93-94; AI-Anfal:
50: An-Nahl: 28, 32; AI-Mu'minun: 99-100; Ya Sin: 26-27 and E.N.'s 22, 23;
AI-Mu'min: 4b and E. N. 63).
وَكَرِهُوا رِضْوَانَهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ {47:28}
[Q47:28] Zaalika
bi annahumut taba'oo maaa askhataL Laaha wa karihoo ridwaanahoo fa ahbata

[Q47:28] That is because they follow what is displeasing to ALLAH (SWT) and are averse to His pleasure, therefore He has made null their deeds.
[Q47:28] That is because they follow what is displeasing to ALLAH (SWT) and are averse to His pleasure, therefore He has made null their deeds.
pernah mereka lakukan).
THUS it is clearly laid down here that
all the good deeds WHICH THE
HYPOCRITES MIGHT HAVE DONE have been wiped
out of their records. (see commentary
for verse 25)
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(47:28) That is because they have followed a way that
angered Allah, and have been averse to His good pleasure. So He reduced all
their works to nought. *38
*38 This refers
to alI those works that they performed as "Muslims." Their Prayers,
their fasting, their payments of the zakat, and all other acts of worship and
virtue, which in appearance and form are counted among good works. were
rendered void, for they failed to adopt the attitude of sincerity and loyalty
towards Allah and Islam and the Muslim community even though they professed to
be Muslims; but, on the contrary, they went on conspiring with the enemies of
Islam for the sake of small worldly gains, and started devising schemes to save
themselves from any possible risks as soon as time came for Jihad in the cause
of AIIah. These verses are absolutely decisive and conclusive in this regard
that in the conflict between Islam and un-Islam the faith of the person whose
sympathies are not with Islam and the Muslims, or are with disbelief and the
disbelievers, cannot at aII be reliable, not to speak of any of his works being
acceptable before AIIah.
SECTION 4
The hypocrites shall be identified
The hypocrites shall be identified by marks---Those who oppose the
Apostle---The life of this world is only a Vain Sport and Play.

(terhadap Nabi Muhammad s.a.w dan umatnya)?
“DISEASE OF THE HEART” refers to hypocrisy, BECAUSE infidelity is a manifest opposition to ALLAH (SWT) and His
prophet. The hypocrites took cover
of Islam to continue opposition so that one day they might turn the
table on the true followers of the religion of ALLAH (SWT).
In Ali the hypocrites faced an unassailable force NOT ONLY in the
lifetime of the HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA
ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) BUT also after his departure. Ali and his sons, the Imams of the Ahlul
Bait, kept the torch of true Islam lighted in all ages.
No intrigues, plans and
machinations of the hypocrites, even with the unbridled temporal power at their
disposal, could corrupt or
disfigure the true message of ALLAH (SWT).
EVERY TRUE SEEKER OF TRUTH FINDS the truth in the teachings and life
patterns of the holy Imams who successfully defied and repelled the hatred and
hostility of the hypocrites in all ages.

THIS VERSE REFERS TO THOSE HYPOCRITES WHO REMAINED UNDER COVER.
Ü
Abu Said Khudri says:
That in the time of the HOLY PROPHET the believers used to recognise
such hypocrites by the tone of their speech.
Ü
Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari and Obadah ibn
Thamit say:
"We used to test our children with the love they had for Ali."
Ü
The
HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALLI ALAA MUHAMMAD WA ALI MUHAMMAD) said:
"O Ali, loves you
not but a believer; and hates you not but a hypocrite."
µ AHMAD
IBN HANBAL SAYS THAT FROM VERSE 22
OF THIS SURAH ONWARDS
THE REFERENCE IS TO BANI UMAYYAH.
The tribe of Umayyah is
included, but it cannot be confined to them,
excluding other hypocrites from among the Quraysh
who hated and actively opposed Ali on
the pretext that risalat and imamat should not be given to the two sons of Bani Hashim.
Reproduced below is a conversation between Ibn Abbas
and Umar bin Khattab, recorded by Ibn Athir in his Tarikh al Kamil. Allama
Mutazili has also recorded it in his Sharh al Nahj al Balagha, vol. 3, p. 107.
Umar said: "O Ibn Abbas, do you know
what made the ummah deprive you (Bani Hashim) of the khilafat after
Muhammad?" "The ummah," he continued, "did not
want to see both the prophethood and the caliphate resting with you (Bani
Hashim) for fear that you might injure the interests of the nation and
trample her at your will. The Quraysh, therefore, chose the caliphate for
themselves. They made a right decision and were successful in getting it."
Ibn Abbas said: "Regarding your remarks
that the Quraysh chose the caliphate for themselves, that they were right and
were successful in obtaining it, I have to observe that the Quraysh would have
been right and none would have questioned their claim to the caliphate or been
jealous of them only if they had chosen it for themselves in accordance with
the will of ALLAH (SWT). As to the remark that the Quraysh did not want to see
both the prophethood and the caliphate resting with us (Bani Hashim), I remind
you of the words of ALLAH (SWT), who described a nation that disliked ALLAH
(SWT)'s choice: 'This is because they disliked what ALLAH (SWT) caused to descend and so
ALLAH (SWT) destroyed all their deeds (Muhammad
47:9)."
Umar said: "Woe to you, Ibn Abbas, you
have been reported to have said that we deprived you (Bani Hashim) of the
caliphate through jealousy, injustice and oppression."
Ibn Abbas said: "As to injustice and
oppression, all educated and uneducated persons know it to be so. As to
jealousy, there is no wonder if you, as children of Adam, are jealous of us who
are (also) his children."
Umar said: "By ALLAH (SWT), you (Bani
Hashim) have always been jealous."
Ibn Abbas said: "You should not attribute
the impurity of jealousy to the hearts of that group of persons from whom ALLAH
(SWT) has kept away all sorts of impurities and uncleanliness and purified them
with a thorough purification."

To know who is the mujahid (he who strives in the way of ALLAH (SWT)) see
commentary of verses
mentioned in verse 20 of this Surah, which
also points out the deserters who used to abandon the HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) at the slightest hint of defeat. It is a clear case of a miserable failure in
the test.
ONLY AN INTELLIGENT STUDY OF THE HOLY QUR’AN

mereka.

See commentary of verses 25 to 28.
IT IS CLEARLY LAID DOWN IN THIS VERSE THAT ANY OPPOSITION, I.E., CAUSING DISPLEASURE TO THE HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI
MUHAMMAD) RESULTS IN COMPLETE FORFEITURE OF THE CREDIT FOR ALL THE
GOOD DEEDS THE OPPONENT MIGHT HAVE DONE.
Immediately as the HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) left this world,
1.
Ali’s
neck was seen in the rope of a group of men, and
2.
The world witnessed the fall of the door of
her abode on the side of the Holy Lady
Fatema which caused the injury with she passed away from this world.
3.
Ali
assassinated while in prayer in the Mosque in Kufa.
4.
Hasan
was poisoned, and
5.
Husain
along with his children and comrades was heartlessly butchered at Karbala, and
6.
The
Eight other Holy Imams, in the seed of Ali and Fatema, were
martyred.
WOULD ALL THESE EVENTS
PLEASE THE HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI
MUHAMMAD) OR
DISPLEASE HIM **AND IF THIS WAS ‘THE OPPOSITION’ (VERSE 32 OF THIS SURAH) TO THE
HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) **AND HAD CAUSED ‘DISPLEASURE
TO HIM’ (VERSE 28 OF THIS SURAH) WHAT IS THE POSITION OF THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THESE
GRAVE AND HEINOUS ACTS OF DISLOYALTY, TREACHERY AND BRUTALITY AGAINST THE HOLY
AHLUL BAYT?
This verse further supports the statement in the previous one.

(47:32) Those who disbelieved and barred others from
Allah’s Way and opposed the Messenger after the True Guidance had become
manifest to them, they shall not be able to cause Allah the least harm; rather,
Allah will reduce all their works to nought. *39
*39 This
sentence has two meanings: (1) That Allah
will render vain and fruitless all those works which they had performed as
"good works", and they will get no reward whatever for them in the
Hereafter; and (2) that all the
devices that they are adopting to obstruct the way of Allah and His Messenger's
Religion will prove ineffective and fruitless.
وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَلَا تُبْطِلُوا أَعْمَالَكُمْ {47:33}
[Q47:33] Yaaa

[Q47:33] O you who believe! Obey ALLAH (SWT) and obey the Messenger, and do not make your deeds of no effect.
[Q47:33] O you who believe! Obey ALLAH (SWT) and obey the Messenger, and do not make your deeds of no effect.
janganlah kamu batalkan amal-amal kamu!
DOING GOOD DEEDS IS HIGHLY COMMENDABLE AND SHALL BE REWARDED PROVIDED
THE DOER OF GOOD IS A BELIEVER [1] WHO NOT ONLY
OBEYS ALLAH (SWT) BUT [2] ALSO CARRIES OUT THE
COMMANDS OF THE HOLY PROPHET ( ALLAHUMA
SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD).
ANY DEVIATION FROM ANY COMMAND OF THE HOLY PROPHET
(ALLAHUMA
SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) WOULD DESTROY ALL THE GOOD DEEDS DONE BY THE
DEVIATOR.
ß Refer
to the commentary of Nisa 4:65; known as hadith
al qartas, to know about the person who not only refused to obey the
HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD)
but branded him mad and a ‘delirious old man’.

(47:33) Believers, obey Allah and obey the Messenger
and do not cause your works to be nullified. *40
*40 In other
words, the deeds' being beneficial and yielding of good results depends wholly
on one's obedience to Allah and His Messenger. After one has turned away from
obedience, no deed remains a good deed so that one may deserve any reward for
it.
اللَّهِ ثُمَّ مَاتُوا وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ فَلَنْ يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ {47:34}
[Q47:34] Innal

[Q47:34] Surely those who disbelieve and turn away from ALLAH (SWT)'s way, then they die while they are unbelievers, ALLAH (SWT) will by no means forgive them.
[Q47:34] Surely those who disbelieve and turn away from ALLAH (SWT)'s way, then they die while they are unbelievers, ALLAH (SWT) will by no means forgive them.
mengampunkan mereka.

(47:34) Verily
Allah shall not forgive those who disbelieved and barred others from Allah’s
Way and clung to their unbelief until their death.

[Q47:35] Falaa

amal-amal kamu.

(47:35) So,
be not faint-hearted and do not cry for peace. *41 You shall prevail. Allah is with
you and will not bring your works to nought.
*41 Here,
one should bear in mind the fact that when this discourse was revealed only a
handful of the Muslims consisting of a couple of hundreds of the Muhajirin and
Ansar living in the small town of Madinah were upholding the standard of Islam
and they were not only faced by the powerful Quraish but also by the whole of
pagan Arabia. Such were the conditions when they were exhorted 'not
to be faint-hearted and not to beg (the enemy) for peace", but to make preparations for the
decisive conflict. This does not mean that the Muslims should never
negotiate for peace, BUT IT MEANS THAT IN A STATE LIKE THIS IT IS NOT RIGHT
TO INITIATE PEACE NEGOTIATIONS WHEN IT SHOWS THE MUSLIMS' WEAKNESS, for it will
still further embolden the enemy. The Muslims should first establish their
superiority in power and strength; then if they negotiate peace there will be
no harm.

[Q47:36] (Ingatlah) bahawa kehidupan
Refer to the commentary of An-am 6:32 and Ankabut 29:64.
"Will not ask for your possessions" is in no way connected with zakat and khums.
It refers to
the HOLY PROPHET (ALLAHUMA SALI ALA MUHAMMAD WA ALA ALI MUHAMMAD) regarding his return for his
mission.

(47:36) The life of this world is but sport and
amusement. *42 If you believe and are God-fearing, He will
grant you your reward, and will not ask you for your possessions. *43
*42 That is,
"As against the Hereafter, this world is no more than a means of temporary
entertainment. The success or failure here is not anything real and enduring,
which might in any way be important. The real life is life hereafter success in
which should be man's main concern. (For further explanation, see E.N. 102 of
Surah AI-`Ankabut).

[Q47:37] (Tabiat kamu wahai manusia)

akan melahirkan kemarahan dan kebencian kamu.

(47:37) If
He were to ask you for your possessions and press you (in that regard), you
would have grown niggardly, and Allah would have brought your failings to
light. *44
*44 That
is; "He does not put you to any severe trial that may bring out your
weaknesses."

[Q47:38] (Ingatlah),
berkeadaan seperti kamu.
Ì
SPENDING IN THE WAY OF ALLAH (SWT) HAS BEEN COMMANDED IN THE OVERALL
INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE.
If they are niggardly [1] they destroy
their own souls AND [2] create disorder in their
own society.
Ì
ALLAH
(SWT) IS SELF-SUFFICIENT, INDEPENDENT. THE WHOLE UNIVERSE BELONGS TO HIM. See
commentary of Ma-idah
5:54.
THE LAST PORTION OF THIS VERSE IS A PROPHECY ABOUT
THE NON-ARABS who
would embraced Islam and who would be more loyal to the cause of the faith than
those addressed here and in verse 5:57.

(47:38) Behold, you are those who are
called upon to spend in Allah’s Way, but some of you are niggardly. Whoever is
niggardly is in fact niggardly to himself. For Allah is All-Sufficient, whereas
it is you who are in need of Him. If you turn away, He will replace you by a
people other than you, and they will not be like you.
